Upcoming Workshop

We periodically offer short, 3 – 4 session online courses on topics around healthy aging, led by people who have expertise in that area. These are not webinars, but rather interactive workshops that involve both learning and sharing. While the specific format is left up to the teacher, it generally involves the presention of ideas and relevant information, followed by questions and discussion which may be in small break-out rooms, or in the large group. The emphasis is on exploration, integration, and how we convert knowledge into practice.

how to stay heart healthy after menopause

Despite the fact that anyone born with ovaries who survives to middle age will go through it, menopause has not been talked about enough. Many of us stumble into this phase of life unprepared for what to expect, how to support ourselves through it, and what life will be like on the other side. The good news is that menopause is coming out of the closet and getting a lot of overdue attention these days.

Updated research and guidelines have debunked many myths and fears about hormone therapy. We better understand what is happening throughout the body during this transition and how to leverage this knowledge to age better. Famous women are speaking out about their own menopausal struggles, rejecting the historical stigma surrounding the topic. And high-profile news outlets like the New York Times are covering this cultural shift with in-depth articles exposing the lack of care women receive during this critical transition.

So what does all this mean for you and me? In this 4-part workshop, we will delve into:

  • Hormonal changes during and after menopause, and how they impact the various systems of the body
  • Figuring out whether HRT is right for you
  • The current science on best practices for self-care through the transition and beyond, including diet, movement and exercise, emotional regulation and sleep, and ways of promoting and maintaining cognitive health
  • Adapting to changes in sexual function, and continuing to enjoy sexual intimacy
  • What we can learn from the science of habit change to support the adoption of regular self-care practices
  • How we can support ourselves and each other to improve our health-span and our quality of life.

This is for you if you are pre-, peri-, or post-menopausal and want to learn more about menopause and engage with others going through the transition. Bring your menopause questions, reflections, and willingness to share.

Optional but encouraged: everyone is invited to use this space to make a commitment to one new habit to start here and continue in support of your own well-being.

Dates: Thursdays, May 9, 16, 23, & 30

Time: 6:30 – 8 pm

Cost: $150

About Vanessa Ross:

“I have been in clinical practice as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) for over 2 decades, providing care to women of all ages. When I hit perimenopause, even I felt confused and had a hard time getting help for my hot flashes, mood changes, and weight gain. Educating myself and finding solutions inspired me to become a Menopause Society Certified Provider (MSCP).

I discovered life coaching in 2018 when I was going through both perimenopause and major transitions in my job and relationship. I was soon amazed at how being coached and learning self-coaching tools changed my perspective and expanded what I thought was possible. I have coached thousands of women through labor & birth, and now I love coaching women through the menopause transition to feel seen, supported, & empowered in this phase of life.

Midlife is a powerful time for personal growth. While there is much we cannot control, we have more control than we imagine. When we embrace where we are and have the information we need, we can better our health and well-being today and for the rest of our lives.”
